But the US women’s hockey team is a different red, white and blue.

It advanced to Thursday’s gold medal game by beating Sweden 5-0 in the semifinals today, with goals from five different scorers. The performance showed the depth and dominance of the lineup. The US has been held scoreless for 331 minutes, an Olympic record, while outscoring all opponents 31-1.

America will face Canada for the gold medal.

The two North American powerhouses have faced off for the gold medal all but once since women’s hockey became an Olympic sport in 1998.

Elana Meyers Taylor he has medaled at every Winter Olympics since 2010 but has never won gold.

Meyers Taylor won the women’s monobob, defeating Germany Laura Nolte, and joined Bonnie Blair as the most decorated woman to ever compete for the US in the Winter Olympics.

Meyers Taylor hugged his two sons when he realized what he had accomplished.

The six-time Olympic medalist now said that this medal is definitely the best, but not just because it is his first gold.

“This is really high, not only the Olympic champion, but to be able to do this with my children, both of my children is like amazing,” said Meyers Taylor to reporters after the awards ceremony.

He entered today’s monobob final already in the record books. With three career silver medals and two career bronze medals, she had the most medals by a women’s bobsledder, and the most medals by a Black Winter Olympian, regardless of sport.

With the gold medal in the monobob, Meyers Taylor joined Blair as the only US women to win six career medals at the Winter Olympics. And at 41 years old, she is the oldest woman to ever win an Olympic medal in bobsled, breaking the record she set four years ago in Beijing.
