Trump will announce the tech company’s power pledges in the State of the Union

President Donald Trump will formally require technology companies to pay more for electricity for new data centers, the Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday.
Trump is expected to make the call during his State of the Union address Tuesday night, announcing new “ratepayer protection pledges” the administration has negotiated with top tech companies. The pledges require tech companies to pay increased electricity costs in communities where AI data centers are being built, officials told the Journal.
Trump’s speech to a joint session of Congress is expected to put the economy at the fore, combining working-family guests with a data-driven case for affordability in addition to various economic policy announcements.
Trump is expected to begin his speech at 9pm Eastern Standard Time on Tuesday evening from the US Capitol. The Journal reported that Trump made arrangements for a speech over the weekend.

“President Trump’s State of the Union address will celebrate 250 years of freedom and the greatness of our nation, highlighting the good stories of America’s heroes throughout the speech,” White House press secretary Caroline Leavitt told Fox News Digital ahead of the speech.
Touting Trump’s accounts, tax cuts for “a big, beautiful building,” lowering drug prices and working to ease the ability of American families to buy a home are among Trump’s top business policies, Fox News Digital has learned. The president is also expected to make undisclosed economic policy announcements during his speech.
The economy is a major concern for voters as they prepare to vote for a new Congress in November, following the Democrats’ 2025 win strategy on “affordability.”

A White House official told Fox News Digital that Trump invited guests tied to various economic programs to his speech, including Catherine Rayner of Norfolk, Virginia. Rayner and her husband have been navigating fertility issues and in vitro fertilization for five years, and Rayner became the portal’s first patient in early February when it was launched.
A couple’s spending on fertility drugs dropped from about $4,000 to $500 under the program, Fox News Digital learned.

The president is expected to use his familiar populist voice in his speech, including speaking out against “special interest groups” that are entrenched in power while “rebellious” and leaving American workers behind, a White House official told Fox News Digital.
