Trump withdraws endorsement of Colorado Rep. Jeff Hurd, citing ‘lack of support’ for expenses.

President Donald Trump on Saturday withdrew his support for Republican Rep. Jeff Hurd of Colorado, who has been critical of the president’s tax policies.

“Based on the lack of support, especially the unbelievably successful TARIFFS imposed by Foreign Countries and Companies that have made America Richer, Stronger, Bigger, and Better than ever, I am WITHDRAWING my Endorsement for RINO Congressman Jeff Hurd,” Trump said in a Truth Social post on Saturday.

Trump added that he is running against Hurd’s Republican primary opponent, Hope Scheppelman. The Colorado Republican primary is June 30.

Scheppelman thanked Trump for his endorsement on social media, writing, “I want to help President Trump undo the damage that Biden and the Democrats have done to our economy and our country, and I will not rest until we finish the job of making America affordable for working families.”

Hurd’s office did not respond to NBC News’ request for comment on the president’s announcement.

Trump initially endorsed Hurd in October, saying at the time the congressman “fought tirelessly to keep our Border Highly Secure, SECURE, Support Our Military/Veterans, Advance American Energy DOMINANCE, Grow the Economy, Cut Taxes and Regulations, Promote MADE IN USA, Second Defense always under ban Amen, Second Defense. STRENGTH.”

The organization is currently serving its first term, winning the election in Colorado’s third district by five points in November 2024.

Hurd was one of six Republican members of the House to vote to cut Trump’s tariffs on Canada on Feb. 11.

Trump said in the post that GOP members of Congress who oppose his tax will face political punishment.

“Any Republican, in the House or Senate, who votes against TARIFFS will face consequences come election time, and that includes the Primaries!” Trump said on Truth Social when the House voted last week.

Hurd stood by her House vote in a social media post that supported the Supreme Court’s decision Friday to strike down many of Trump’s policies.

“I share President Trump’s goal of achieving fair trade and reciprocity and protecting American industry. Tariffs can be a useful tool when used strategically,” Hurd said in a post on Friday. “But today’s decision underscores the need for Congress to play an active role in trade policy.”

Scheppelman criticized Hurd for her vote against the tax, writing in a post on X Friday, “@RepJeffHurd and liberal judges should support President Trump and the American people, not work against them.”

The president said in his post on Saturday that he has withdrawn his endorsement only once, when he withdrew his endorsement of Rep. Mo Brooks in the 2022 Alabama Senate race.

However, Trump also withdrew his support from former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., in November. Greene, who built his platform in Congress on the ideas of MAGA and is a staunch supporter of Trump, began criticizing him last year over the delay in releasing the Epstein files and the administration’s support for Israel.

Greene announced his resignation from Congress shortly after Trump withdrew his endorsement of his re-election campaign.

“Withdrawing an endorsement is a difficult decision for me,” Trump said in a post on Saturday.

Scheppelman, whom Trump is now endorsing for Colorado’s 3rd District, is a Navy veteran and former vice chairman of the Colorado Republican Party, according to his campaign website. He also had a 35-year career in health care.

“I trust Scheppelman has my Full and Complete Endorsement to be the next Representative from Colorado’s 3rd District and, unlike RINO Jeff Hurd, I HOPE HE WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN!” Trump said in his post.

Trump said in the post that Hurd “is more interested in protecting the International Countries that have been defrauding us for decades than the United States of America.”

Following the Supreme Court’s decision on Friday to strike down many of Trump’s executive orders, the president again suggested that the Supreme Court’s decision was influenced by foreign interests.

“I think that the interests of other countries are being represented by people who I believe have undue influence,” the president said at a press conference on Friday. “They have a lot of influence on the Supreme Court, whether it’s out of fear or respect or friendship, I don’t know.”
